Raised
Genre: Golden Heavy Body acrylic paint on Windsor and Newton Cotton stretched canvas, 3’ x 4’
Year: 2024
Raised is a wild landscape of the north, where dreams, memories and magic intertwine in a dance of light and shadow.
In this painting, layers of translucent and iridescent acrylic paint on a black gessoed canvas create a northern nightscape, where the vibrant hues of the aurora borealis dance beneath the watchful gaze of a giant moon, in the velvet starry sky. Amidst the celestial display, a mysterious UFO hints at the whispered tales of otherworldly encounters that echo through Yukon's skies. Ghostly figures drift through the landscape, silent witnesses to my personal journey and the lessons learned along the way. Like the energy of the landscape, they travel through portals, valleys, roads, rivers, trails and mountain ridges. These are all movements of the memories I collected through childhood while camping, fishing, and driving for hours on bumpy trails - endless exploring. The slips and slides of my youth, discovering love and adventure. Now, as an adult, this landmark of mine that I keep coming home to.
Raised is a reflection of the magic found in everyday moments and the profound connection we share with the natural world. Through its vivid colours and imagery, I invite viewers to rediscover the joy of exploration and the wonder of the world around us, connected to my home in the north.
