noun: retrospect; plural noun: retrospects
- a survey or review of a past course of events or period of time.
The path of synchronicities is always obvious in retrospect. January is the yearly time of reflection to break perceive bad habits.
A week into the new year, a reflective drive was required on a dark winter night. This ritual of emptying the mind and spilling it onto the processes of driving wasn’t unusual but driving at 3am was – next time I’ll take a walk.
In retrospect, the feeling of a large event was imminent but disguised in the draping of a new year, “new year, new me”. I wrote letters, cleaned my car, and noticed a string of patterns in numbers.
One turn and not enough traction, I found myself sliding, flying, falling and upside down.
Without the luxury of modern communication, I found myself kicking a window, and walking on an icy highway with the moon gazing down and lighting the way.
Without any noises, I found myself realizing, maybe tonight isn’t my lucky night.
Stillness and silence was met with an angel and her dog, an impromptu confession box manufactured from an old van taking me back home, because the angel decided to cash her check on Saturday and not Friday like usual.
This exhibition is investigating the properties of synchronicities. Do we create meaningful coincidences to make sense and understanding of experiences? Is it all just a matter of probability? Are we attached to an underlying collective consciousness?
